A+ Home Care has its roots from the struggles of two ordinary, extraordinary people, Leah Welch, who became disabled
at the age of 24 as the result of Polio in 1949, and Wayne Johnsen, who was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at the age of
17 in 1953. At that time, programs assisting people with disabilities to continue to live in their own home did not exist.
Almost thirty years later, as a solution to the frustrated efforts of living independently, Leah and Wayne, founded the first
consumer oriented non-profit agency serving people with disabilities in Minnesota known as Independence Crossroads. In response
to laws enacted in 1988, changing the delivery of personal care assistance, a sister agency was founded by Leah's daughter
Donna Robb, known as A+ Home Care.
